The device has a pseudo-random-signal generator (51) with a digital logic switch provided for generating a pseudo-random signal with a predetermined frequency. A voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) (52) is provided for generating a clock signal with a predetermined frequency. A mixer (53) mixes the pseudo-random signal and the clock signal to produce a chaotic signal for output. A band pass filter (54) filters the chaotic signal into a chaotic signal of a desired bandwidth and the filtered signal is the output. An independent claim is also included for a method for generating a chaotic signal.
