The device has a radial turn controller for producing a swiveling movement of a turning gripper system (22) and an axial turn controller for producing an opening movement of gripper arms. The swiveling movement of the gripper system is controlled independent of the opening movement of the gripper arms. The axial turn controller exhibits an axially movable control unit that is adjustably supported in a guide of a turning drum (29). The control unit is brought into contact with diagonally arranged counter bearings of the gripper system.
