An image photographing/regenerating device supporting a security function and a method thereof are provided to strengthen a security function by writing specific data among compressed data and the other data respectively in an internal storage part and a movable storage medium in storing a image photographed through a device. An image photographing/regenerating device supporting a security function comprises a compression part(150), a storage part(160), a movable storage medium(170), a decoding part(180), and a control part(200). The compression part(150) compresses photographed image data. The storage part(160) stores arbitrary information among the compressed data. The movable storage medium(170), such as a memory card, stores the other data among the compressed data. The decoding part(180) decodes selected compressed data. In storing the photographed image data, the control part(200) writes security function setup indication data at an arbitrary region of the compressed data, and stores the arbitrary information and the other data respectively in the storage part(160) and the movable storage medium(170). In regenerating the image data, the control part(200) extracts the arbitrary information and the other data respectively from the storage part(160) and the movable storage medium(170) according to the security function setup indication data, combines the arbitrary information with the other data, and outputs the combined data to the decoding part(180).
