The present invention relates to a method of building a two- or three-hulled vessel known as a catamaran or trimaran equipped with a bank of photovoltaic cells covering the entire surface of the roof of the super structure of the vessel and supplying the electric batteries of the vessel which provide energy for the electric propulsion motors. A set of hybrid diesel-electric engines may be installed in place of the electric motors if vessels are sailing in waters with little or no sunshine to increase its autonomy.
