<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate with optical compensation layer capable of performing wide-viewing angle compensation for a liquid crystal cell, obtaining circular polarization of wide-band region, contributing to thinning, preventing thermal uneveness and satisfactorily preventing light leakage at black display. <P>SOLUTION: In the polarizing plate 10 with optical compensation layer, a polarizer 11, a first optical compensation layer 12 and a second optical compensation layer 13 are laminated, in this order, where the first optical compensation layer 12 is made of a liquid crystal compound, having the relation nx>ny=nz and in-plane retardation Re<SB>1</SB>of 100 to 170 nm; the second optical compensation layer 13 has the relation nx=ny>nz and has a thickness-directional retardation Rth<SB>2</SB>of 30 to 400 nm, and the angle between the absorption axis of the polarizer 11 and the slow axis of the first optical compensation layer 12 is in the range of ± (25 to 65°). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
