<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine for protecting a filter to a maximum extent by increasing the frequency of preventing the excessive temperature rise of the filter. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device comprises a filter regenerating means 64 for removing particulates accumulated on the filter during the operation of the internal combustion chamber to automatically regenerate the filter, and a malfunction identifying means 62 for identifying the malfunction of the internal combustion engine detected during automatic regeneration, as the malfunction to give influences to continuous operation of the internal combustion engine or the malfunction to give no influences to continuous operation of the internal combustion engine. The filter regenerating means selects a mode for preventing the excessive temperature rise of the filter when the malfunction identifying means identifies the malfunction to give no influences to continuous operation of the internal combustion engine and continues the mode until the temperature of the filter is not higher than a predetermined temperature to cause the excessive temperature rise (S204-S206). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
