A system and a method for providing an audio book outputting a background music are provided to manage audio book contents, increase transmitting efficiency and transmit synchronized information of audio book contents which is received from an audio sever and in which voice information and text information is synthesized. A terminal device downloads an audio book application by connecting to an audio book server(S410). The terminal device requests audio book contents to the audio book server(S420). The audio book server extracts text information and a background music corresponding to the audio book contents(S430). The extracted information and music are converted into digital data to be transmitted to the terminal device(S440). The terminal device receives the digital information, and synthesizes the digital information in voice information(S450). The terminal device outputs the back ground music and voice information received from the audio book server(S460).
