A digital music instrument performing method in a karaoke system is provided to use the karaoke system as a musical instrument learning tool by comparing media data of a specific channel with media data received from a digital music instrument and displaying the performance capacity of a user playing the musical instrument as a score. In a karaoke instrument playing mode, a random audio song and the kinds of digital music instruments are selected(S10,S11). The media data of the specific channel corresponding to the kinds of the digital music instruments is selected(S15). The music instrument playing points are calculated by comparing the media data of the selected specific channel with the media data received from the digital music instrument(S17). A menu screen containing a karaoke audio song list and the music instrument kind list is displayed. The medial data and the microphone sound are outputted through a speaker(S16).
