A device for detecting a paper size and an image forming device equipped with the same are provided to check the size of paper simultaneously loaded with paper width alignment by detecting the size of the loaded paper according to color concentration, which is detected by a sensor installed to a paper width guide for supporting the width of the loaded paper, of a detection tape. A paper width guide(10) is moved left and right to align the width of the paper loaded in a paper feeder. The sensor(20) is installed to the paper width guide. The detection tape(30) is installed along a widthwise direction of the paper at the paper feeder to be faced with the detection sensor. The detection tape has a different color level along a lengthwise direction and includes a color patch having a different color in each section. The sensor includes a light source outputting light to the detection tape and a light receiver receiving the light reflected from the detection tape.
