<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of noise at the image block boundary by permitting mixture of encoded data due to irreversible encoding and outputting one of preselected irreversible or reversible data in a region belonging to a specific image, and to generate encoded data of high compression rate when an encoding object image has a high resolution not lower than a threshold or when it has no character attribute by converting the image to have a lower resolution before it is encoded irreversibly. <P>SOLUTION: An image input section inputs image data in units of image block and a resolution decision section decides whether the resolution of encoding object image data is lower than a threshold. If the resolution is lower than the threshold, or when a specific image decision section decides that a remarked image does not have the properties of a specific image, an encoding data selecting section selects and outputs the data with less code amount. If the resolution is lower than the threshold and when the specific image decision section decides that the remarked image has the properties of the specific image, encoded data of a type preset at a control section is selected and output. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
