<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a preceding vehicle and an oncoming vehicle by identifying a light source corresponding to the lamp of a vehicle based on the information of brightness (luminance). <P>SOLUTION: When the lamp of a vehicle is a light source, a luminance range observed by an image sensor can be predetermined in each distance. Then, a relationship between the distance and the luminance range is stored, and a relationship between luminance actually observed by the image sensor and the distance to the light source is collated with the stored relationship, so that it is possible to identify whether or not the light source is the head lamp or tail lamp of the vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
