PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for shortening air lock operation time and a structure thereof simplifying a structure of a vertical shaft pump and shortening time of air lock operation. SOLUTION: A recessed part 14 is provided on an casing liner 6a of an impeller chamber inner wall of an opposing section positioned on an inner wall surface of an impeller chamber 6 and a rotary surface of a blade 8 tip of the impeller 7 of the vertical shaft pump 1 having the impeller chamber 6 and rotatably supporting the impeller 7. The recessed part 14 is provided in a form crossing over a water separating surface, and drains water remaining in a column pipe 3 to a suction pipe 2 side. Power of water flow by rotary direction and centrifugal force is dropped at the recessed part 14, scattered water is dropped and drained via the recessed part 14 of the casing liner 6a. Water remaining in the column pipe can be immediately processed irrespective of the length of an underfloor, cost is reduced with a simple structure and maintenance is simplified.
