PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use light from each light source as illumination light. SOLUTION: An illumination apparatus is provided with: a first light source part 2a and a second light source part 2b for emitting illumination light of the same color; a light source control part for controlling the first light source part 2a and the second light source part 2b; a common light guide part 3 for introducing the illumination light emitted from the first light source part 2a and the second light source part 2b to a common emission end face; an opening part A provided so as to be intersected with an optical path in the optical path of the light guide part 3; an optical path modification wheel 4 for alternately arranging a light reflection region and a light transmission region in the opening part A; and a rotation position sensor 10 for detecting an occupied state of the light reflection region and the light transmission region arranged in the opening part A. The light source control part lights a first light source 5a and a second light source 5b securing the optical path up to the emission end face based on the detection result of the rotation position sensor.
