PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a display device, by which the progress of unnecessary etching is prevented. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the display device includes: a coating processing step for providing an etching resistant material 20 so as to coat and protect the both side end faces of a pair of glass substrates 11, 12 at least in a part of the outer peripheral part of a display panel 10 having the pair of glass substrates 11, 12 which are opposed to each other with an interval; and an etching processing step for thinning the pair of glass substrates 11, 12 by etching the exposed portions of respective glass substrates 11, 12 on which the etching resistant material 20 is formed so as to coat the both side end faces.
