PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality discriminating apparatus capable of informing abnormality of an optical scanner and to provide an image forming apparatus that forms an image when there is no abnormality in the optical scanner. SOLUTION: A laser diode driving circuit 152 discriminates whether the values of driving currents of laser diodes 50Y, 50M, 50C are normal or not, and the discrimination result is transmitted to an abnormal signal output part 154. When the value of at least one driving current is abnormal, the abnormal signal output part 154 outputs, through one output signal line, a signal indicating abnormality of the laser diode 50 from a laser diode driving circuit board 150 to a control part 24. Further, a starting position detecting sensor 66 detects the abnormality of a laser diode 50K, a rotary polygon mirror or the like. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
