PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screen printing apparatus which can ensure good printing plate releasing properties and a stable quality of printing, and a screen printing method. SOLUTION: In a screen printing for printing a soldering paste on a substrate, an initial retention time TO in a printing plate releasing operation is set in advance as a specified timer value based on a viscosity recovering time inherent to the kind of the soldering paste, and on the printing plate releasing after squeezing operation, after the initial retention time TO passes, under a condition that the viscosity of the soldering paste is recovered, releasing of the substrate 10 from a mask plate 12 is started. It is possible thereby to suppress collapse of the soldering paste in releasing the printing plate and to ensure the good printing plate releasing properties and the stable quality of printing.
