PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that power is consumed wastefully since sensitivity of a dust detection means is raised due to deceleration of dust passing through the dust detection means when dust is accumulated in a dust bag for a vacuum cleaner to weaken suction force. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner is provided with: the dust detection means having amplitude means 232 and 233 corresponding to the size of dust and detecting the dust in an air path; and the gas-permeable dust bag collecting the dust. When the dust is accumulated in the dust bag to weaken the suction force, correction of lowering the sensitivity of the dust detection means is performed, so that the sensitivity of the dust detection means is prevented from being raised due to deceleration of the dust passing through the dust detection means when the suction force is weaken. Thus, without regard to the quantity of the dust in the dust bag, the dust on a surface to be cleaned can be detected by constant sensitivity, and as a result, the power is not consumed wastefully when the quantity of the dust on the surface to be cleaned is small, and energy saving and satisfactory usability are attained.
