A hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) and a method for controlling generation of electric power are provided to allow application of HEV to a large sized vehicle over 400 horsepower. A hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) includes: the first relay(R1) to control operation of the first electronic clutch(10) making driving force of the vehicles engine linked to a electric power generation motor(2); the second relay(R2) to control operation of the second electronic clutch(20) allowing link between a radiator fan motor of the vehicle(5) and the electric power generation motor, the third relay(R3) coupling electric power of the vehicle with the radiator fan motor; and a control part(30) to control the first, the second, and the third relay according to operation status of the vehicle. A method for controlling generation of electric power of HEV includes the steps of: determining if the driving mode of a vehicle is an electricity generation mode and letting the first relay operate; measuring temperature of the vehicle's cooling water and switching the second and the third relay in case that the measured temperature is over a prescribed value; and switching the second relay off and turning the third relay on in case that electric charged amount is over a prescribed value.
