PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display of an IPS system, wherein visual field angle characteristics in high gradation are improved. SOLUTION: A common electrode is divided into first and second common electrodes 21 and 22. A signal voltage is applied to a pixel electrode 10. When a fixed voltage is applied to the first common electrode, capacitance divided voltage is applied to the second common electrode 22 via a capacitance electrode 7. Two electric field regions Ep and Ec acting on liquid crystal molecules 121 exist in one pixel, and as a result, the visual field angle characteristics in high gradation are improved.
