PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator paper for a battery capable of improving battery capacity and battery life by means that electrolytic solution retaining property is superior against an alkaline electrolytic solution, and that generation of an external short-circuit in the battery can be prevented excellently with superior separation property, and also provide the separator paper for the battery capable of exhibiting such properties especially even when used for a mercury-free alkaline battery against the negative electrode zinc, and the battery composed of such separator papers. SOLUTION: This is the separator paper for the alkaline battery in which a positive electrode and a negative electrode of the alkaline battery are separated from each other, and which contains a cellulose fiber obtained from soft cellular structures of plant. The content of the cellulose fiber obtained from the soft cellular structures of the plant is preferably 1 to 70 wt.%, and suspension stability is preferably 50% or more. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
