PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and wide-angle lens unit in which aberrations are appropriately corrected, and to provide an imaging apparatus that uses the same. SOLUTION: The lens unit includes: a (k+1)th lens group arranged, while being adjacent to an image side of a k-th lens group; a diaphragm arranged in between a position at an image side of the k-th lens group and a subject-side lens surface of the lens closest to the image side in the (k+1)th lens group; and a shutter arranged, while being adjacent to the image side of the (k+1)th lens group, where the shutter has an aperture in a noncircular shape. The relation between the aperture shape of the shutter and the heights of light fluxes, at the position where the shutter is arranged, is configured within a proper range.
