<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus evaluating a code amount with a relatively low processing load. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 2 has a correspondence table in which context numbers and code parameters are associated with each other in advance, specifies a context number for input image data, and reads the code parameter corresponding to the specified context number out of the correspondence table to calculate an estimated code amount based upon the read-out code parameter.
