<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the leakage of information stored in a storage device such as a USB storage media. <P>SOLUTION: In USB storage media 2, a special area 81 stores a cryptographic key to be used for encrypting data and authentication information to be used for authentication, and a secure area 82 stores data encrypted by using the cryptographic key by a PC1. A CPU 72 authenticates a user based on a password hash generated by the PC1 based on input by a user and a password hash stored in the special area 81, and when the validity of the user is confirmed by authentication, the cryptographic key stored in the special area 81 is transmitted to the PC1.
