PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of maintaining a removal function without causing residual toner and the like from clogging the inside of a memory removal brush. SOLUTION: A charging voltage of a prescribed level is applied to a charging brush 23. Also, a dispersion voltage in which an AC voltage is superimposed on a DC voltage of a prescribed level and of a polarity same as that of a charging voltage is applied to the memory removal brush 27. Accordingly, the memory removal function is imparted to the memory removal brush 27 by applying the DC voltage of the prescribed level, and residual toner and the like entering the removal brush 27 as a result of the superposition of the AC voltage can be expelled by applying an electric field amplitude.
