PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start control method for an compression ignition type internal combustion engine capable of preventing misfire after completion of start control of the compression ignition type internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The start control method for the compression ignition type internal combustion engine for starting the compression ignition type internal combustion engine using viscous lubricant is characterized by including a first process S103 setting fuel injection timing to advance side by a predetermined time T0 necessary for raising cylinder temperature of the internal combustion engine to a predetermined temperature in start of the internal combustion engine, and a second process S110 setting fuel injection timing after completion of the predetermined time to retard side as compared with fuel injection timing before completion of the predetermined time.
