PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-absorbing resin by using a stirring apparatus having a specific structure and a surface-crosslinking method for a water-absorbing resin with shortened treating time in heat-treatment. SOLUTION: The surface-crosslinking method for a water-absorbing resin contains (1) a step to obtain a wet mixture, (2) a step to obtain a dried particulate composition and (3) a step to perform surface-crosslinking reaction. The treating time in each step can be shortened by the method and, accordingly, a water-absorbing resin having good physical properties can be produced in a mass. The method for producing the water-absorbing resin contains a modifying step and a cooling step, the modifying step and/or the cooling step are carried out by using a stirring means having a rotary shaft provided with a plurality of stirring boards, and the stirring means is provided with stirring boards having a specific thickness and/or scraping blades having a specific shape.
