The band comprises a carrier strip(1) on the upper side and an adhesive coating(2) on the band underside covered by a removable protective film(3). The band is folded in the transverse direction along a first edge(5) running along the band length so that at least part of the adhesive coating remains uncovered by the protective film. - In one form the adhesive coating(2) may remain uncovered by protective film(3) at least in the area of the first folded section(4). In an alternative the band has a second folded section folded over in the transverse direction along a second folding edge running along the band length. The protective film(3) may have a longitudinal slit which may or may not coincide with the second folding edge. An edge(9) of the protective film projects beyond the first(5) and/or second folding edge. The adhesive coating may remain uncovered in the area of the second folded section First and second folded sections may be the opposing edges of the band and free ends of both sections are adjacent to each other. Alternatively the first and second sections are folded so that one lies on top of the other. In this case the band upper side may lie on top of each other or band undersides may lie on top of each other. The carrier layer(1) can be torn by hand transverse to the band length. When folded the band is formed into a roll. In the non-folded condition the band is not less than 3cm, preferably 3-50cm, more preferably 4-30cm and even more preferably 4.5-20cm wide. Areas of the band may be perforated, the perforations having an average size of 3mm and a round, rectangular or oval shape. Carrier material provides good adhesion to mortar.
