PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overvoltage protection element which can make the size of a substrate smaller while securing the length of a clearance required in order to obtain stable property. SOLUTION: Since a clearance 10a between a first and a second conductors 11, 12 are formed so as to extend in the crosswise direction (longitudinal direction) of a substrate 10, the linear dimension L3 of the clearance 10a can be enlarged compared with the case where it is formed so as to extend in the lengthwise direction (direction intersecting perpendicularly with the longitudinal direction). Consequently, the size of the substrate 10 can be made smaller, while securing the length of the clearance 10a required in order to obtain stable property. Moreover, since corners 11b, 12b located at both ends of the clearance 10a in the lengthwise direction are formed in the shape of curve, potential does not concentrate on the corners 11b, 12b, making it possible to prevent partial electrical discharge in the corners 11b, 12b.
