There is provided a multiple discharge lamp lighting apparatus, which includes an inverter means and plurality of inverter transformer. In the multiple discharge lighting apparatus, a discharge lamp is connected to the secondary winding of each inverter transformer, a ballast impedance element is connected in series between a switch means of the inverter means and the primary winding of each inverter transformer, and a current balancing means is provided between each two adjacent inverter transformers. This structure enables the lamp currents of the discharge lamps to be stabilized and uniformed without using an element of a high withstand voltage, thus achieving cost reduction.
