<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an image shift due to a deviation in conveyance timing between a toner image and a transfer material when an intermediate transfer belt having an elastic layer is used as an intermediate transfer body. <P>SOLUTION: An intermediate transfer body position detecting means is provided opposite an outer wound roller bending the intermediate belt inward from an image carrying surface to detect a home position flag of the intermediate transfer belt.
