<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new liquid crystal compound for preparing optical devices and the like giving a suitable Rd value depending on used wavelengths and applications, especially having high durability to blue laser beams. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal compound is expressed by CH<SB>2</SB>=CR<SP>1</SP>-COO-(L)<SB>k</SB>-E<SP>1</SP>-E<SP>2</SP>-E<SP>3</SP>-E<SP>4</SP>-R<SP>2</SP>, wherein R<SP>1</SP>denotes H or methyl; R<SP>2</SP>denotes 1-8C alkyl or F; k denotes 0 or 1; L denotes (CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>p</SB>O- or -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>q</SB>- (wherein p and q denote each independently 2-8 integer); E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>2</SP>and E<SP>3</SP>denote each 1,4-phenylene, at least one hydrogen atom out of hydrogen atoms bonded to carbon atoms in three 1, 4-phenylene groups is substituted with fluorine; E<SP>4</SP>denotes 1, 4-phenylene or trans-1, 4-cyclohexylene, wherein hydrogen atoms bonded to those groups may be substituted with fluorine, chlorine or methyl. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
