<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for grinding a surface for improving a crystal orientation on a surface of a tape-like metallic base material to improve a critical current of a superconducting thin film. <P>SOLUTION: This oxide superconductor comprises a tape-like base material 110, an intermediate layer formed on the tape-like base material 110, and an oxide superconducting thin film formed on the intermediate layer. This method for grinding a ground face of the tape-like base material includes a step for grinding the ground face while continuously traveling the tape-like base material 110, and the grinding step includes an initial grinding 103 and a finish grinding 104.
