PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system that is capable of imaging an all-directional (entire circumferential) image at high resolution or projecting a high resolution image in all directions (along the entire circumference), can be extremely easily manufactured, is compact, ensures satisfactory correction of aberration and has high resolution. SOLUTION: The optical system is rotation symmetrical around a rotation symmetrical axis 1. In a cross-section including the rotation symmetrical axis 1, an imaging means using a refracting face 11 or 14 of a discontinuous shape or a reflecting face or an imaging means using diffraction is disposed.
