PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new platinum complex useful for a material for a light-emitting element and having short-wavelength light-emitting characteristics, and to provide the light-emitting element using the complex. SOLUTION: The platinum complex useful as a phosphorescence emission material is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, ring B is a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle; rings A, C and D are each an aromatic ring or a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle, with the proviso that one of the rings C and D is a 5-membered ring and the other is a 5- or 6-membered ring; R<SP>A</SP>, R<SP>B</SP>, R<SP>C</SP>and R<SP>D</SP>are each a substituent of the rings A, B, C and D; at least two of X<SP>A</SP>, X<SP>B</SP>, X<SP>C</SP>and X<SP>D</SP>are nitrogen atoms coordinately bondable to a platinum atom, and the remainder two are carbon or nitrogen atoms covalently bondable to the platinum atom; Q is a divalent atom or a divalent atomic group crosslinking the ring B with the ring C; Y<SP>C</SP>and Y<SP>D</SP>are each a carbon atom or a nitrogen atom).
