摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the deterioration in emission performance when an exhaust catalyst device is not activated. SOLUTION: This various-fuel internal combustion engine is operated by introducing at least one kind out of at least two kinds of fuels F1 and F2 different in properties to a combustion chamber CC or introducing mixed fuel composed of at least two kinds of fuels F1 and F2 to the combustion chamber CC, and is provided with a control device (an electronic control device 1) for switching to premixed spark ignition flame propagation combustion mode operation, by increasing an including rate of the highly ignitable fuel F1 in the combustion chamber CC more than the fuel mixing ratio of a premixed spark ignition flame propagation combustion mode when a catalyst of the exhaust catalyst device 72 is an inactive state, and thereafter, increasing an including rate of the highly evaporable fuel F2 in the combustion chamber CC more than the fuel mixing ratio of a compressed self-ignition diffusion combustion mode by starting in the compressed self-ignition diffusion combustion mode.
