A mobile communication terminal having a camera and a control method thereof are provided to convert a dedicated processor for camera controlling into a sleep mode as enabling a main controller to perform a camera function and an image processing function, when low picture quality images are taken in a terminal mounted with a dedicated processor for a high picture quality camera, thereby improving system operation efficiency as saving power. A camera module(22) outputs a digital image signal by operating at low picture quality mode and high picture quality mode, as a camera control signal for controlling a photographing environment is inputted. A camera controller(24) applies the first camera control signal so that the module(22) operates in the high picture quality mode, and processes the digital image signal as high picture quality image data according to a preset format. A main controller(20) provides data for controlling the photographing environment to the controller(24) so that the controller(24) controls the high picture quality mode when the high picture quality mode is set, and applies the second camera control signal so that the module(22) operates in the low picture quality mode when the low mode is set, then processes the digital image signal into low picture quality image data. |
