[Also in Group XXIX] Relates to a thermally actuated valve in which a thin fluidfilled phial 8 exposed to room temperature is connected by a tube 10 to a double bellows element in connection with the valve casing 1. This element comprises a regulating bellows 6 deform. able to adjust the temperature of actuation of the valve, and a working bellows 4 coupled to the valve stem 2. According to the invention, the tube 10 is made of material of low heat conductivity, and is shorter and slimmer internally than the phial, and the latter is close to the casing and extends vertically below the double bellows element. The tube 10 may be made of stainless steel, and has fins 11. The free end 13 of the bellows 5 has a threaded recess engaged by a screw 14. Rotation of the screw by the handle 15 varies the position of the end 13 and so alters the temperature at which the valve is actuated. The head of the screw 14 and a recess in the handle are both polygonal so that the handle can be adjusted relatively to the screw to make a pointer 16 carried by it point to the required temperature on a scale on the cover 3. Discs 20 with polygonal holes may similarly be set so that lugs 22 on the discs engage a stop 24 to limit the movement of the handle 15, screw 14 and end 13. |
