An olivine type cathode active material precursor for a lithium battery is provided to realize excellent crystallinity and a high tab density and to obtain a cathode active material having a high bulk energy density. An olivine type cathode active material precursor for a lithium battery comprises MxO4-zBz particles (wherein M is an element selected from Fe, Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, Zr, Nb, Cu, V, Ti, Zn, Al, Ga, Mg, B and combinations thereof; X is an element selected from P, As, Bi, Sb and combinations thereof; B is an element selected from F, S and combinations thereof; and z ranges from 0 to 0.5), and has a particle diameter of 0.1-10 micrometers and a tab density of 0.8-2.0 g/cm^3. |
