A battery comprises a number of flat cells each having two plastic casings sealed together to form two compartments communicating with each other at their central section, the cathode 1 being disposed in one compartment and the anode 3 in the other. Fig. 3 shows two plastic sheets 5, 6 having the cell components and an apertured portion 7 therebetween. The ends of the sheets 5, 6 are then bent to meet the sheet 7 as in Fig. 4, after which they are welded at the meeting edges. Alternatively, the casings forming the two compartments may be arranged so that one casing nests into the other as in Fig. 5 (not shown) or the two compartments may be formed by using two sheets for each compart. ment without the intervention of a partitioning sheet as in Fig. 6 (not shown). |
