A display panel and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to trap ion impurities within the display panel into a BM(Black Matrix) area by using a trap electrode, thereby removing an afterimage due to the ion impurities. A display panel comprises a first display substrate including a first base substrate and a common electrode formed on the first base substrate to receive a common voltage, a second display substrate joined to the first display substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first display substrate and the second display substrate. A second display substrate includes a second base substrate facing the first base substrate, a plurality of gate lines (GL1,GL2) extended on the second base substrate in a first direction, a plurality of data lines extended in a second direction and insulated from and crossing the gate lines, a plurality of pixel electrodes(250) inclined at an angle with respect to the data lines, and a trap electrode(215) between neighboring pixel electrodes. The trap electrode receives a voltage different from a pixel voltage, which is applied to the pixel electrodes, to trap ion impurities.
