A method and a system for detecting fail of a steering angle sensor in an electric power steering apparatus are provided to reduce the cost of sensing the fail of a steering angle sensor by judging that a steering angle signal has a fail when a first rotary direction of the steering wheel is not conformed to the rotary direction of the motor. A rotary direction of a motor is sensed by receiving current and voltage according to the motor rotation(S210). A first rotary direction of the steering wheel is sensed by receiving the steering angle signal, and the rotary direction of the motor and the first rotary direction of the steering wheel are checked to be conformed(S220,S230). When the rotary direction of the motor and the first rotary direction of the steering wheel are not conformed, it is judged that the steering angle sensor is not properly installed or the steering angle signal has a fail to operate the fail-safe logic(S260). A torque signal is received from the torque sensor and a second rotary direction of the steering wheel is sensed from the output of the torque signal(S240). The rotary direction of the motor and the second rotary direction of the steering wheel are checked to be conformed(S250). |
