A device for supplying a relay service in a multi-hop relay type broadband wireless access communication system and a method are provided to offer synchronized synchronous channels and services to a terminal and relay stations by using consecutive two frames, thereby easily performing a cell searching process for synchronization and handover in accordance with mobility of the terminal. A subframe for terminal link with a base station and a subframe for terminal link with a relay station are configured during the first section(701) of a subframe(700) in the ith frame. A subframe for 1-hop relay station link with a base station, a subframe for odd-numbered hop relay station link with an even-numbered hop relay station, and a subframe for terminal link with an end hop relay station are configured during the second section(703) of the subframe(700) of the ith frame. A subframe for terminal link with the base station and a subframe for terminal link with the relay station are configured during the first section(411) of a subframe(410) of the (i+1)th frame.
