An apparatus for washing glasses, including a washing compartment and a plurality of fluid outlets (82). A tray (100) for retaining the glasses is positionable in the washing compartment. The tray (100) has at least one fluid directing nozzle (140) which is alignable with the fluid outlets (82) in the washing compartment to permit fluid to flow from the nozzles (140) through the tray (100) and to direct the fluid into contact with the glasses (146). In preferred embodiment, at least a portion of the fluid contacts the glasses (146) substantially tangentially. A method for washing glasses (146) is also disclosed.
