The device has a cylinder receiving a rod (3) and a detection device detecting position of the rod with respect to the cylinder. The detection device has a bar (11) with hall effect detectors (12), fixed on the cylinder, extending parallel to the rod such that the bar has a region covering a rod`s outer surface zone having an axial dimension greater than that of a reference pattern formed by a flange and a magnetic layer of the rod.
