[Also in Group XXX] The material-supporting floor of a fermentation or maturing cell for compost is formed of elongated members 2 which can be turned to form gaps through which the material falls. As illustrated each member 2 is metal and of trough shape and adjacent members 2 are turned in opposite directions by worm drives 8, 10 from a shaft 9. The members 2 may be perforated or formed of mesh. They may rotate through a complete circle or may oscillate. Scrapers may remove material adhering to their backs. Several floors such as that illustrated are superposed in a maturing cell for forming compost so that the material may gradually be moved through the chambers.</p> |
