An amine oxide-based surfactant, and a detergent composition containing the amine oxide-based surfactant are provided to improve the miscibility with anionic and nonionic surfactant and to enhance cleaning power and softening power. An amine oxide-based surfactant is represented by the formula 1, wherein R1 and R2 are identical or different each other and are independently a C8-C22 linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group; A is a C2-C4 alkylene, alkenylene or hydroxyalkylene group; X is a hydroxyalkyl group, (CH2CH2O)nH, (CHCH3CH2O)mH or a mixture of (CH2CH2O)nH and (CHCH3CH2O)mH; and n and m are an integer of 1-30.
