PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for effectively providing a time stamp to facsimile data while preventing acquisition of a useless time stamp. SOLUTION: In communication terminals (100 and 200) executing facsimile communication according to a communication protocol wherein the communication terminals exchange the capability between the transmission and receiving terminals prior to transmission/reception of facsimile data, the receiver side facsimile machine (communication terminal) 100 transmits capability information denoting whether or not its machine can acquire a time stamp to a transmitter side facsimile machine (communication terminal) 200 in advance. The transmitter side facsimile machine 200 executes time stamp attaching instruction to the facsimile data and when the receiver side facsimile machine 100 can acquire the time stamp, the transmitter side facsimile machine 200 transmits instruction information including the acquisition instruction of the time stamp to the receiver side facsimile machine 100.
