PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader obtaining high read performance by utilizing the quantity of light in a point light source effectively. SOLUTION: The image reader has: an LED light source (point light source) 22 for emitting light toward an original surface; a light guide body 23 for guiding light emitted from the LED light source 22 to the original surface; a reflecting plate 24 for guiding light (indirect light) L' that does not pass through the light guide body 23 among the light emitted from the LED light source 22 onto the original surface; and a photoelectric conversion element for reading light L" reflected on the original surface. In this case, the LED light source 22 is inclined so that the emission direction of light from the LED light source 22 is inclined with an angleθtoward the side of the reflecting plate 24 with respect to a center optical axis O of the light guide body 23.
