PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a scanning light detection signal for all the colors in the most appropriate phase position, without limiting the phase adjustment range of the scanning light detection signal relative to image formation scanning reference signal, and to prevent a sub-scanning misalignment equivalent to one face amount of a polygon mirror. SOLUTION: An image forming device has a control unit 15 which: calculates the phase difference of an IDX signal between two adjacent colors in a K-IDX signal and the IDX signal of each CMY color which is phase adjusted according to a sub-scanning correction amount on a BK color reference; compares the phase difference of an index signal between the two colors with the phase difference which forms a mask region Ma; finds the combination of the index signals of the color which is the color of the phase difference larger than that of the mask region Ma; calculates an offset amount that the phase difference of the index signals of the combination of color found over-strides the phase difference of the mask region Ma; and computes the sub-scanning correction amount of the index signals for all the colors from the offset amount thus calculated.
