PROCESS FOR SURFACE MODIFICATION OF POLYMER SUBSTRATE AND POLYMER FORMED THEREFROM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicone intraocular lens having a surface prepared by modifying the surface of a polymer substrate and giving a semi-interpenetrating polymer network structure.

SOLUTION: The intraocular lens includes: (a) absorbing a swelling monomer into the surface of a silicone intraocular lens to swell up the intraocular lens; (b) penetrating the swelling monomer into the surface of the intraocular lens; (c) polymerizing the swelling monomer for a predetermined time to form a semi-interpenetrating network structure on the surface of the intraocular lens: (d) removing the silicone intraocular lens from the swelling monomer after a predetermined time. It is useful on a point that the process can be usable for improving the capacity of attaching on the surface of a surface modification agent such as heparin.
